ScalePoint Research · Process map · Explainer
We rate 22 of the 51 processes on our map as agent work. An AI model takes text in and writes text out, and on its own it can't see your systems. An agent is that model with tools to reach specific systems, a loop to work a case step by step, and limits set by the firm, with a person approving anything that moves money.
What it does
Follows fixed rules written in advance, such as "match on amount and reference". This includes RPA bots.
Who acts
The software, within its rules. Anything that doesn't fit goes to a person.
In reconciliation
Matches most lines and leaves the rest as breaks.
What it does
Answers the question you paste in, using only what you paste in.
Who acts
A person, who copies data in and the answer out.
In reconciliation
An analyst pastes a statement extract and asks why it doesn't add up.
What it does
A model built into a product, reading the case on screen and suggesting an answer or a draft.
Who acts
A person, who checks the suggestion and does the work.
In reconciliation
Summarises a break and suggests a cause. The analyst looks up the records and books the fix.
What it does
Works a case from start to finish: looks things up, decides the next step, explains the result and drafts the fix.
Who acts
The agent does the work. A person approves the fix before anything is posted or sent.
In reconciliation
Traces a break to its cause, values it and drafts the journal and the claim.
Vendors use "copilot" and "agent" loosely. In our vendor tables, we only call a product an agent in production when paying customers use it to work cases start to finish.
